Whether you arrive by ferry or choose to breathe the salty sea air cruising Long Island Sound, you will disembark the Bridgeport – Port Jefferson Ferry [4] on Water St. Ten minutes away, the Holiday Inn [3] offers a chance to freshen up, have lunch, spend the night and leave your car if you brought it. A short jaunt brings you to the Arena and Ballpark at Harbor Yard [6-7], the breathtaking sports complex where fans enjoy concerts, trade shows, Bluefish Baseball and Bridgeport Sound Tiger Hockey year round.

Two choices for award-winning live theatre are nearby. Across from McLevy Green [1] is The Playhouse on the Green [8]. With evening entertainment generally more suited to adults and teens, this stylish theater sits grandly amid an array of restaurants offering everything from an internet café to fine dining. A twist that is both unusual and fun for all is a “bring your own” picnic before the late matinee at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre [2]. You may opt for an evening performance but the choice of whether to bring PB&J and box drinks or champagne and candles is up to you. And more delightful food selections abound a block away on Fairfield Avenue's "Restaurant Row".

If a leisurely indoor stroll is more to your taste, head for the Housatonic Museum of Art [10] where Picasso and Matisse hang beside contemporary artists in a bright modern setting. And don’t miss CityLights Gallery [9] hidden on Markle St. for the remarkable works of regional talent.

No tour of Bridgeport would be complete without the Barnum Museum [5] where everyone finds a favorite exhibit. This celebration of the city’s heritage explores the imagination and legacy of lifelong resident, Phineas T. Barnum, the inspired entrepreneur who introduced us to the ”Greatest Show on Earth”.

A short cab ride leads south to Seaside Park where the shoreline drive wends along the beach, showing off playing fields, and walking paths designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed for NY’s Central Park. Photographers and hearty walkers can trek to the end, cross the breakwater and see Fayerweather Lighthouse up close. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo awaits 2.5 miles north with animals, a free-flight aviary, the Farmyard, a carousel, and the Peacock Cafe. Or, treat your family to the nationally acclaimed Discovery Museum 4 miles north with hands-on science galleries and daily planetarium shows.

Walk at your leisure as shown on map 1.5 miles from points 1 to 10.
